You pull the laces like you would on any other boots. The laces, however, are the slightly thinner draw cord variety which allows them to roll over 4 mini ratchet 'winches'. This allows you to lace the boot to the perfect tension around the critical ankle area, where the first pair of mini winches are located. Then you can independently set the perfect tension for the upper part of the boot, using the upper-most pair of mini winches. There are a pair of cleats at the top to lock everything off. Finally, you tuck the lace ends away into a very neat little housing. It is quicker and easier to do than it is to read about it! Fast and simple, with no slippage!
